  • Playboy Plus has changed quite a lot since Mr. Pink’s last stopped by for a look, rating it a nice, round 83%. Have these changes been beneficial to the paying customer or will you, if you are one, be left wondering what the hell happened to your favorite Playboy website of old? Peel back the front cover of this cyber-mag with me, Mr. Pink, your attentive and instructive host, as we thumb carefully through the digital pages of Playboy Plus or, if we’re going by its new name, Playboy Cyber Club.

Intro:
If there's one thing most men can claim to have in common with one another it's that, at some point in their life, they discovered Playboy magazine. Whether they found a copy in their father's t-shirt drawer or saw a centerfold tacked onto the door of a truck stop toilet, every guy remembers coming across the most important and revered men's magazine of all time. Started by Hugh Hefner in December 1953, Playboy magazine continued to draw in more readers, reaching its peak of popularity in the 1970s with a single issue's sales passing the seven million mark. Now, with the Internet taking a strong hold of all information sources, Playboy has established itself as a legitimate online presence with around a dozen websites, all the while continuing to publish the very same magazine that solidified the empire. Playboy Plus used to be the name, now it’s Playboy Cyber Club and although the site looks radically different to the last time it was reviewed by Mr. Pink’s, some things are truly constant and never change – just ask Hef.

Pros:
- Playboy Cyber Club not only gives you access to a heavily modified Playboy Plus, but also to Playboy’s All Naturals, Busty Babes, Fresh Faces, Sexy Wives, Student Bodies, and Women of Playboy. There’s a ton of content archived on these sites and all of it is accessible to you, the Playboy Cyber Club member.

- Content that has been uploaded in the last year or two seems to hit a fantastic new standard of digital quality for Playboy’s online ventures. Take G4’s resident babe Olivia Munn, for example: Olivia’s gallery (which includes more than ten previously unpublished images) can be viewed at resolutions of 533x800, 683x1024, and 1865x2800 pixels, bringing you brilliantly clear and vibrant glamour shots of these drop-dead-gorgeous models.

- The women… Well, they’re the women of Playboy Magazine, just online, so they probably look exactly like the image you’ve already formed in your head. They’re predominately blonde (although a healthy smattering of redheads and brunettes can also be found) and they’re always stunningly beautiful!

- There’s quite an expansive range of photographic pleasures to be found here at Playboy Cyber Club, with straightforward glamorous softcore shoots, MILFs, fresh-faced teens from Smalltown USA, Suicide Girls (they’re syndicated, don’t ya know), and even the prettier female employees of Wal-Mart (a.k.a. that store you stole rubbers and lube from and thought buying a girl pizza would get you some).

Cons:
- Finding your way around Playboy Cyber Club is no easy feat. Sure, the site looks almost as gorgeous as the Playmates, but beauty alone won’t win Webbies. The Cyber Club homepage (or “Member Gateway”) offers numerous menus and links to other sites, some of which cannot be accessed with your Cyber Club members’ pass, and a plethora of advertisements to really serve little purpose than to clutter the space and make things difficult to find. (I mean, everybody already knows about Mr. Skin at this point, don’t they?)

- Older content (i.e.: content which was uploaded in the last two-or-so years, not content from the 60s and 70s that was only uploaded last week) seems to suffer greatly from lower resolutions and general digital clarity. Where newer viewing options offer brilliant clarity and rich texture, older material looks comparatively dull and stilted.

- Let’s face it; Playboy ain’t what it used to be. Drew Barrymore might have posed nude for the bow-tied bunny in 1995, but Lindsay Lohan shunned Hef’s offers and opted instead to reveal her pink bits in a classy New York magazine spread (and a later one in Muse). It’s a fact; Playboy is now more focused on resting on their previous laurels and venturing into abysmal “reality television”, the critical faux pas of which is that they’ve allowed the models to speak.

- This ‘con’ is a short one: members, being given no online option, are forced to call an 800 number to cancel their membership. What, have they got a smoky-voiced dame on the other line to tempt you back with a little discount?

Conclusion:
As I said at the outset, there have been a lot of changes here at Playboy Plus (or Playboy Cyber Club, as it is now known). One thing that apparently hasn’t changed, however, is the monthly membership price of $19.80. What exactly does that payment get you? Well, in addition to everything lovingly laid out above by yours truly, members can expect daily updates, a huge archive of back-issue beauties and current hotties to behold, videos (though largely unimpressive) showing photoshoots in action and interviewing models, and the usual trough of extras. What makes Playboy Plus/Cyber Club worthwhile depends on your appreciation of the beauty depicted within. You’ll get no articles or interviews, just the stunning models of Playboy Magazine, but online.
